Museums

Local history and traditions, the hard professions of the ancient times, the customs that modern life nearly makes disappear, as well as the new industrial realities that have developed thanks to the modernization during the last century. This is what Cusio’s museums are to tell us: on the one hand, mountain villages’ traditions and the customs of old professions; on the other, the industrial flourishing and the economic boom of the XIXth century.
Stone-cutters, umbrella-makers, turners, wind instrument makers and hotel keepers, as well as household items’ industries and the district of taps and fittings. There are the themes of the majority of the museums that have been established in Cusio area.
Moreover, don’t forget the art of some famous local artists, such as Calderara or Rodari, or the art history that passed through the whole area, such as movies filmed on the Lake. It is often no use going to the museum to enjoy all the artistic treasures of this area: Romanesque, renaissance, late-renaissance and baroque art, altar cloths and holy vessels, canvas, frescoes, and so on… you can freely enjoy this heritage, and every single village presents its jewels.
Traditions, folklore, handicraft, art and history, literature and music: a mixture of ingredients that make Cusio a region full of culture and attractions for occasional visitors – assuring them many curios too – as well as for those who love to stay for a long time, or for the inhabitants who love to have a break and think their history over: a way of “living” Cusio.
