Ecomuseo del Lago d’Orta e Mottarone

The Ecomuseo of Lake Orta and Mottarone (Ecomuseo Cusius)

Established in 1997, the Ecomuseo Cusius has been set up thanks to the Piedmont Region whose will was the improvement of its local heritage. It is an agreement among local authorities (communes, communities, museums, locations) that undertake to increase the value and protect the territory under every historical, cultural, environmental and traditional aspect.

The Ecomuseo Cusius is not an open museum collection but an agreement among different territorial realities; it’s an institution that offers a wide variety of information both about interesting locations and local events connected to the surrounding environment.
Thanks to the Ecomuseo, a sort of network allowing different local realities to communicate and direct all their energies into the common task, the inhabitants can coordinate their activities and protect traditions and cultures, conveying them to the youth through a series of didactical initiatives and proposals, especially addressed to schools.

The Piedmont Region has been the first to establish a “Laboratorio Ecomusei” (Ecomuseo Laboratory), drawing its inspiration from a deep-rooted European experience.
