Museum of Open Air Cinema (Orta San Giulio Fraz. Legro)

“Il cinema messo al muro” is the name of an initiative that brought Legro, a small Orta San Giulio’s hamlet, to take part into the well-known “Paesi dipinti” (painted towns), about a hundred associated Italian resorts that show their frescoed walls as well as paintings by famous and unknown painters. They are private dwellings` walls, given to the artists as a canvas.

From 1998, Legro has always carried out the aim of this initiative that is richer and richer: showing new works of art inspired to the Cinema whose background was Lake Orta or the Piedmont Region, not only to collect tourists but also to promote this priceless treasure that counts more than 45 works.

Legro offers an open air art gallery. The cinema on the walls, that everyone can freely enjoy, is certainly an attraction for this Orta’s hamlet: Legro d’Orta painted town.

Yet, one of the various aims of this initiative is also the invitation to make sure that Cinema came back on the Lake shores: the shown frescos, inspired by movies since 1917 along Lake Orta shores, challenge today`s filmmakers: come back and let you infuse by the charm of Lake Orta and the whole Cusio area, with its natural setting, the landscapes, the views and the suburbs.
