Museo Etnografico e dello Strumento Musicale
Ethnographical and Wind Instrument Museum (Quarna Sotto)The
history museum of Quarna is one of the few music museums in Italy, and one of
the fewest in the world dedicated to wind instruments. It drew its inspiration
from the traditional production of wood instruments, most of all band ones, and
it eventually included different collections that testify local
traditions.
The musical instruments, over 300, are shown on the first
floor: there are common examples as well as others with a historical and
documental value together with some models which were employed in the
construction of prototypes, machineries or utensils, just to testify a
flourishing craftsmanlike tradition. From the woodwinds (clarinet, saxophone,
oboe, flute and fagotto) to the brass (trumpet, trombone, horn and flugelhorn),
together with some paper that testify the history of this particular and
peculiar local profession.
The activities of the Museum range over
didactics, with the opportunity to visit the last quarnese factory of musical
instruments in action, and the seasonal organisation of musical events, such as
concerts, competitions and didactical activities.
A series of objects,
utensils and environment reconstructions connected to Quarna`s traditions
complete the collection: the loom, the press, the mill, as far as the
documentation regarding the genealogy of local families, which besides would
demonstrate (the conditional is a must) the quarnese origins of Fausto Coppi,
the famous cyclist.
