The natural treasure of Cusio is due to the environment variety of the whole area: first of all, Lake Orta, with its waters and St. Jules Island; secondly, the hills that surround the lake, with their gentle slopes and thick woods; finally, the Alps, from Mottarone – that divides Lake Orta from Lake Maggiore – to the Strona Valley, which climbs westwards and toward Pennine Alps’ peaks, as if it tried to chase the heights of Mount Rosa that stands out magnificently in the sky.
Lake, woods, hills, mountains: a blend of breathtaking views and incomparable emotions. A heritage to be protected, so much that the Piedmont Region has established three Special Natural Reserves that include the hills surrounding the lake, a patrimony that even the inhabitants and the local authorities acknowledge, as for instance in Germagno. You will easily fall in love with these glimpses, as well as Iginio Ambrosiani and Giuseppe Rossi – the two men who founded in 1934 the alpine botanical garden “Duxia”, then “Alpinia” – grew enthusiastic about them.
